Galaxy Tailgate

My 51 plate Galaxy tailgate just will not open with the key or remote.

Any one have any ideas how to open this manually ?

There is a way to open it, think its in the FAQs, not sure right now.

If it won't open there is a good chance the tail gate power supply lead is damaged / cut. Mine did the same and without the power feed to the tailgate door handle the lock solonoid won't release. Hard to get in without damaging the rear panel but it can be done, there is a release switch inside the panel. You guessed it you cannot remove the panel without the door being open lol.

Are you certain the tailgate will not open with the key?

 

Insert the key and turn anticlockwise, firmly past the normal opening position, to the 9 o'clock position - it should manually override and open the tailgate lock.

 

There is a procedure in the FAQ to cut the trim panel to access the release, but that's only as a last resort if the lock barrel is completely siezed - turning the key to 9 o'clock should do the same thing, even if there is no power to the locking system.

Well on my 1999 model the key has no mechanical link to the lock release, hence your stuffed if you loose power, I checked this when I finally got in, don't cut the panel you don't need to I managed it with sore arms instead.

When I rang fraud @ the time they advised me only way was to wreck rear panel & get in that way...nice of them I thought lol

My 1999 model certainly has, are you sure your lock isn't just siezed?

 

...according to TIS, all models seem to have the same mechanical linkage... well, it's actually a cam that physically shoves the solenoid in. :angry2:

ummm sorry peeps..it was this thread i moved as it was originally posted in the MKIII technical section when it isnt a MKIII veeeehicle.I put moved to correct forum for my own guidance so i know im moving the correct thread..usually i delete it once i have.

You should be able to open the boot with the various methods listed and linked to above.

 

The failure in the wiring loom is usually in the rubber conduit at the top right ride of the tailgate, between the tailgate and the car body.
